Though it announced last December on this, it wasn't widely available until recently. I also didn't know about this new function as i seldom explore facebook features. Now it seem that this new functionality had been debated on privacy.
Facebook seems to be forever pushing the boundaries of what "online privacy" means.
So, what is this Face Recognition. Facebook has now enabled "tag suggestions" to many more of its users around the world, which means your friends will get an alert if someone uploads a photo that Facebook thinks contains your image. They'll be invited to tag it, and then your ID's associated with that image. Sounds neat in some ways, and there are a few privacy nods thrown in. You might notice this and just use the function but probably you don't know what it is behind the technology.
This function is actually turned on by default. Here's how to turn it off
Here are the step to disable the function.
- Go to Account*Privacy Settings.
- Click "Customize settings."
- Scroll down to "Suggest photos of me to friends" and click the Edit Settings button.
- Click the box where it says "Enabled" and select "Disabled."
- Click "Okay" and return to your previously scheduled activities, already in progress.
Select the Disabled in the dropdown.
